“Well You Was Doing 55 in a 54″

The latest cost of chronic lateness:

A speeding ticket yesterday morning.

78 in a 60, with a $150 fee. $300 if I want to get it taken down to a non-moving violation.

Ouch.

I hate speeding tickets, It’s one of my biggest budget busters and I average 1 per year. Lately however, i’ve lowered my speed. I’ve been cruising around at 3 mph above the speed limit which conserves gas, while also protecting my money from “donating it back to the city.”

My worst speeding ticket was in california on a business trip. 108 in a 60. I am still suprised the officer did not take me to jail, and I tried to fight it by california’s written process. Long story short, I sent the $580 bail, and a 28 page paper on why I was not guilty. I don’t even think they read it, because as soon as the check cleared I was sent a guilty notice, with no elaboration. Speeding tickets are even worse, because they completely nullify the concept of innocent until proven guilty, there have been so many times I’ve wanted to take the ticket to court and when they ask for my statement to just respond “Prove it.” Unfortunately because someone took a 4-6 month training program, and wears a badge he/she is above us and would not, lie or misconstrue facts…
